Description:

Accounting duties associated with general ledger close including preparation of assigned journal entries, reports and account analysis. Position is a designated coordinator of the PeopleSoft general ledger system including accountability for system functionality in accordance with the Company’s requirements, reporting structures that accommodate company’s financial reporting objectives. Position also has primary responsibility for coordinating and preparing monthly, quarterly internal management reporting as well as some interaction with internal/external audit staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General accounting reporting duties normally associated with the general ledger close process including preparation of assigned journals (as needed) assigned reports and corresponding variance explanations; Position will be responsible for several high-visibility areas of accounting including analyzing consolidated accounting general ledger information and preparation of GAAP based consolidated income statements balance sheets, and other designated monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Coordinate and compile consolidated financial information as required for governmental compliance (i.e. BEA reports).
  • Develop policies and procedures on use of chart of accounts chartfields. Work with users to suggest changes to achieve reporting objectives, assist in the maintenance of chartfield structures in accordance with policies and financial reporting objectives of the organization.
  • Design and coordinate the development and maintenance of standardized consolidated financial reports utilizing our PeopleSoft nVision reporting tool.
  • Perform and report basic consolidated financial statement analysis in support of financial reporting objectives of the finance organization as assigned
  • Participate with respect to assigned areas in the quarterly reviews & annual audit by the Company’s independent accountants.
  • Assist in our continual execution of SOX compliance tasks.
  • Assist in coordinating/forwarding information to internal and external auditors as assigned. Resolve and respond to any auditor requests as needed.
  • Other ad hoc general accounting projects as assigned (for example, system implementation team participation and or IFRS conversion preparation).

 

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Preferred but not required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or pursuit there-of or MBA
  • 3-6 or more years experience performing monthly financial close activities including preparation of journal entries, preparation and account reconciliations, variance analysis and internal management reporting for an organization with external reporting requirements.
  • 2 or more years preparing and coordinating internal management reporting within a publicly traded company.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to various accounting systems and fast paced accounting environments.
  • Preferred but not required: Participation in previous process improvement experience in the area of the monthly close process, specific areas of accounting and financial reporting

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Specialized training/experience in management reporting
  • Must possess the ability to research, analyze and apply GAAP
  • Due to deadlines imposed by the monthly close process and quarterly external reporting process on must be able to effectively plan, organize, prioritize, and work under pressure as tasks are brought to closure.
  • Must have a service oriented attitude as one collaborates with team members across various accounting groups.
  • Must be a quick learner who is adaptable to change due to the ever-changing needs of the operational accounting organization, deadline changes, etc. Also one must be able to grasp the changing nature of accounting and disclosure requirements.
  • Must possess effective communication skills, orally and written communication skills for communicating with the various accounting staff and management.
  • A high degree of integrity and accuracy is required due to the nature of information involved as well as the additional requirements as a public company; critical to job performance.
  • A high degree of analytical skills and professional judgment is required to ensure that account reconciliations and reported financial results are logical in relation to expected results; Most possess the ability to utilize problem solving skills to efficiently isolate problems/errors within tight time constraints.
  • Initiative, results orientation & accountability is required and important to job performance; initiative to tackle accounting, reporting and process issues; high degree of accountability for the quality of work product
  • Knowledge of energy industry is preferred but not required.
  • Experienced moderate excel user or above is preferred by not required.
  • Peoplesoft experience is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to work overtime at various times throughout the year to meet deadlines and job requirements.
